FITNESSS emerges as a composite of wires and veins

coursing with the distilled rage and sorrow of a decimated Los Angeles

prosthetic electronics trigger angelic pulsations

flowing through nervous pathways to demonstrate

the primordial choreography of our Holy Ancestors

the celestial and terrestrial begin to sync under blinding lights

as SOFT CENTRE live-streams the resulting Pandemonium—will this dance of survival save us from the Final Impact...?

WeiZen Ho devises solo and participatory works that occupy spaces of uncertainty between performance, ritual and installation. She investigates methods for accessing the memory body through image concept sketching, vocal-bodywork, improvisational techniques and mimicry of spirit possession, formalising a spirit-corporeal vocabulary. Her performance employs accoutrements and imagery that coalesce relationships between body, voice, sound and site.

As one of the core producers for infamous Soundcloud rap collective SPIDER GANG (USA), SOLSA has amassed a fanatic online following. His prolific output has seen his beats land on releases by LIL DARKIE, BRUHMANEGOD and SNOT to name a few. In 2021, SOLSA relased his debut solo single - LISTEN - an unapologetic ode to eavesdropping with his superhuman-sized ears. ‘SOLSA type beats’ are distincitvely frenetic, bit-crunched and ‘swamp’-like, warping the grimiest pockets of trap, metal and tek with irreverent cheek. Making his highly anticipated hometown debut at SOFT CENTRE, SOLSA will present a set of entirely new material with costuming by Gharps.

A recent Boiler Room alumni with a fondness for the fast and hard-hitting, Stev Zar weaves worlds when she DJs. Moving with her mood, her sets blend fierce percussion, bass-heavy club, experimental electro, and southside rap with classic acapellas and cinematic scores to create something chaotic and atmospheric (with a cheeky reference or two folded in). The aim is body euphoria. Her goal is to uplift trans bodies and challenge her audience to move beyond genre to connect with the heart of the sound.

Currently based in Naarm, Stev Zar’s spans DJing, production, and co-curation for QTBIPOC collective, UMAMI.

Horse MacGyver presents an unhinged and ill-thought-out version of creative expression that combines audio and visual technologies in a manner that attempts to capture an audiences attention for at least 40 minutes in an age completely dominated by 15 second samples of our collective neurosis [live A/V].

Horse MacGyver is the nonsense moniker of Melbourne based media artist, sound designer, and musician Timothy Dwyer. Dwyer represents a radical approach to the construction and dissemination of electronic music that combines high impact sonic hysteria with scalpel-like precision editing and hardware programming.

Beginning in Canberra’s divergent house party culture and partially within whatever the words ‘Witch House’ came to mean, his decade-long evolution as a musician has seemingly navigated beyond trends or genre whilst being a constant light speed processing of them. With works released on labels such as !K7 (GER), Disaro (USA), No Patience Records, Nice Music, and Moontown Tapes, his recordings, performances, and live video works exist as an alchemical wash of rupture and play.

Wings of D’sire is the sonic bi-product of the friendship between party-enjoyers / closed-eyed dancers / Gadigal-based DJs Maria Wang (D-Grade) and Liam Taylor (Wingnut). Inspired by a spectrum of frenetic, bossy and beautiful sounds, Wings of D’sire pursue the margins of dance music as they navigate us through boisterous and emotive waves of sub-bass.

SOFT CENTRE enters a long-abandoned Chinese cinema in Haymarket to present a late-night offering of unhinged theatrics and A/V mind melt.

Coursing with the distilled rage and sorrow of a decimated Los Angeles, i8i affiliate FITNESSS (USA) prompts pandemonium with their prosthetic electronics and strobic overload. Making their long-awaited hometown debut, Spider Gang producer, SOLSA, will also perform an eruptive live set that merges SoundCloud rap, tek and ‘trap metal’. Founder of QTBIPOC collective UMAMI, Stev Zar stages a narrative DJ set under the AN.IĆ moniker with a performance from Kianna, Mother of House of Dévine, and WeiZen Ho continues her Stories From the Body oeuvre with a participatory opening performance fusing vocal-bodywork, hair whipping and mimicry of spirit possession. Finally, enfant terrible of Australia’s breakcore and witch house scenes - Horse MacGyver - unleashes a new A/V work, titled: An unhinged and ill-thought-out version of creative expression that combines audio and visual technologies in a manner that attempts to capture an audience’s attention for at least 40 minutes in an age completely dominated by 15 second samples of our collective neurosis.

Although Pleasures Playhouse has an accessible bathroom, the venue is not accessible for those who use a wheelchair as there are 51 stairs from the venue entry to the performance space.  This event carries a heavy strobe, laser and atmospheric smoke/fog/haze warning. The venue will be dimly lit, and high decibel levels are expected so quality earplugs are recommended.

For more information on accessibility for this event, please contact our Logistics Manager, Lane Pitcher, at lane@softcentre.com.au.
