SOFT CENTRE wants everyone to feel welcome and be safe at UNFURL. An accessibility breakdown for all venues at UNFURL is downloadable as a .pdf format below:

General

  • Bathrooms at every venue are All Gender bathrooms. 
  • Seating will be available at all venues. If you have access needs and would like to secure priority seating, please reach out to our Logistics Manager, Lane Pitcher, at lane@softcentre.com.au.
  • All performances - excluding the discourse program at Greenhouse Studios - contain amplified music, so bringing your own earplugs is recommended.
  • All music events - except the Social Hub @ Poor Toms Gin Hall and The Calyx - carry a strobe and laser warning. 
  • All music events carry an atmospheric smoke/fog/haze warning, except the Social Hub @ Poor Tom's Gin Hall.
  • Guide dogs are obviously welcome at all venues, but please note that the performances contain amplified music.
  • If you wish to bring a support animal, please reach out to our Logistics Manager, Lane Pitcher, at lane@softcentre.com.au.
  • Each venue at UNFURL has spaces away from amplified music if you need to take a break and chill out. See the Accessibility breakdown (link above) for venue-specific information on chill out spaces.
  • SOFT CENTRE is a safer, welcoming and positive space. There is a zero-tolerance policy toward any forms of harassment or discrimination. If you or anyone you are with notices any disrespectful or predatory behaviour please notify our doorstaff or any of the event organisers. They will be able to help rectify the situation and take the burden out of your hands.

Using a wheelchair at the venues

  • St Barnabas’ (24.11.22), Poor Toms Gin Hall (26.11.22) and The Calyx at the Royal Botanical Gardens (27.11.22) are accessible venues; they can be accessed by people who use a wheelchair, and have wheelchair bathrooms on site. 
  • Greenhouse Studios (26.11.22), the Pleasures Playhouse (25.11.22) and the secret location (26.11.22) are unfortunately not accessible for those who use a wheelchair.

Since its inception in 2017, SOFT CENTRE has been lauded for its experimental artistic programming, winning ‘Music Event of the Year’ at the FBi Radio SMAC Awards in 2017 & 2018. In addition to the annual festival, SOFT CENTRE works with organisations and artists across a variety of practices to develop cutting edge cross-disciplinary performances, public installations and programs. Volunteer

Volunteers play an integral role in making SOFT CENTRE possible. Since 2017, a community of incredibly talented volunteers have generously donated their time on event day to fill roles in:

  • Stage management and assisting,
  • Managing ticketing and the door,
  • Artist liaising and support,
  • Pre/Production, for example running,
  • Event Production, for example bump in/out, changeovers, soundcheck,
  • Art Department, and
  • Sustainability.


No experience is required to volunteer; we’re seeking people with a passion for new ideas in sound, art, and digital media! In return for four hours of your time, you’ll receive an entry ticket to one UNFURL event. If you’re keen to be part of the SOFT CENTRE team over UNFURL weekend (Thurs 24 - Sun 27 Nov), please fill and submit our application form below.

Anuraag is an organiser, artist and DJ. Behind the decks, they have an improvisational, layered style favouring hi-def, glossy textures, organic percussion and fluid polyrhythms, drawing connections between traditional and hypermodern instrumentation, colliding contexts to explore new forms and formats.

They have played at local and international institutions including Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields,, Bossa Nova Civic Club (NYC) and NTS Radio (London) and supported heavyweight artists as broad as Helena Hauff, DJ Sprinkles, and Mama Snake.


E3P is an Eora based DJ, radio producer for Spoil on fbi94.5, and multidisciplinary creative. Since their run of FBI’s Dance Class 2020 Program, they’ve continued with their pedantic process and consistently inconsistent selections, jumping from delicate ambient textures to hard heavy bass.


salllvage (Rowan Savage) is a proud Kombumerri man, living on Wangal Land. He is an experimental producer, DJ and dancer working at the intersection of queer club culture and connection with Country. His work mutates on-Country field recordings into electronica, and inhabits and bridges the tensions between abstraction and emotion, the wild bush and the dancefloor, the personal and the social, authenticity and reconstruction.

salllvage will be performing a special hybrid set - DEEP GECKO ENERGY - blending field recording taken on Kombumerri country and esoteric club music mixed across 4 CDJS.


ABADIR (Rami Abadir) is a music producer, sound designer, DJ and music critic, born in Cairo, Egypt and based in Berlin, Germany. His work combines post-club experimentalism, glitch and cranial ambient music, with recent releases on SVBKVLT, Genot Centre, Hush Hush, Yerevan Tapes, Kaer’Uiks among many other labels. ABADIR is also the editor of the electronic music section of the Arabic music webzine Ma3azef, where he contributes as a writer on critical theory, music history, reviews and interviews.

Founded in collectivism, /amalg seeks to titillate the senses with installations that both delight and haunt, traversing the boundaries between rave culture and contemporary art practice. Utilising dejected domestic hardware and reclaimed materials, speculative futures are realised in the present as biological and technical elements fuse in the creation of new immersive environments.
